Since creation of the team in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR, Manchester United used to trend with their jersey in the colours of Green and Yellow and they had no sponsor labelled on their jersey.
Even after the teams name changed to Manchester United Football Club in 1902, they still had no sponsor tag on their newly traditional red colour jersey at the time. In 1945, Umbro became Manchester United first official sports wear kit manufacturer, and it manufactured kits for the team with it's labels on them, but the kits still did not have an official sponsorship tag on them.
In 1975, Admiral took over from Umbro to become the teams kit manufacturer at the time, and during their period as kit manufacturers Manchester United still did not yet have official sponsor tags on their kits. After 5 years of working for the team, the famous German sports wear manufacturer Adidas took over from Admiral in 1980 to become the team's kit manufacturer.
Manchester United's kits didn't have sponsor tags on them all these years past untill 1982 when the American electronics company SHARP became the team official sponsor with it's tag on the front of Manchester United's jersey. SHARP was on the teams Adidas kit, and even in 1992 when Umbro again took over the kit manufacturing contract from Adidas. At this period the Sharp sponsorship tag was on the Man United Umbro jerseys till the year 2000.
The 2000-01 season, the British Telecommunications company Vodafone took over from Sharp as the teams official sponsor for a 6 year deal. In the first 2 years of this deal the Vodafone sponsorship tag was on the team's Umbro jersey, and in 2002 the American sportswear company Nike took over from Umbro as the team's kit manufacturer.
As of now, Nike is the Longest reigning kit manufacturer of the team after the produced kits for the team for 13 years. Through out this period, they manufactured Manchester United kits with the sponsor tags of Vodafone (till 2006), the American Insurance company AIG (till 2010), AON insurance (till 2014), and the American automobile division of General Motors Chevrolet. Nike's deal with the team ended in 2015 on Chevrolet tagged jerseys.
From the 2015-16 season, Adidas again took over the kit manufacture deal with the production of Manchester United kits
with the Adidas three band tags. They are currently on a 10 year deal (pending 5 years), and in this period of their they have produced United's kits with the Chevrolet sponsorship tag infront, and with AON on their training kits. And in 2018-19 season Kohler became the first sleeve Sponsor of the team and since that period the teams Adidas jerseys had the Kohler sponsorship tag on their sleeves alongside the Chevrolet tag on their shirts. Before the coming of the Chevrolet sponsorship, Nike also produced the training jerseys with the DHL sponsorship tags (a deal which started from 2011 till 2015 when it was sold to AON).
From the beginning of the 2021-22 season, the software company TeamViewer takes over from Chevrolet as Manchester United's kit sponsor and the team's adidas jerseys will have the TeamViewer sponsorship tag alongside the Kohler sponsorship tag on their sleeves.
